What is my UAI number?

Since 1978, any educational institution (schools, secondary schools, high schools, CFA, higher education, public or private) is referenced by a code in the national directory of institutions (RNE).

In 1996, the “RNE” became the “UAI” for Registered Administrative Unit, concerning 135,000 institutions.

A UAI code (ex-RNE) consists of 7 digits and a letter (for example 0951099D):

• 3 digits (095) correspond to the French department (for example 012 for Aveyron, 095 for the Val-d’Oise, 974 for Reunion …);
• 4 digits (1099) that uniquely identify an institution in the department;
• 1 letter (D) which is a checksum that ensures the correct entry of the code.
